Turn the water off. Your stop tap is usually under the kitchen sink. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

Electrics. If water is anywhere near lights, sockets or the fuse board, switch the electricity off at the mains. Don't touch wet switches.

Drain it down. Turn your heating off, then open all the taps, cold and hot, to empty the pipes and take the pressure off the burst.

Contain it. Towels, a bowl or bucket under the leak. Move anything electrical off the floor.

Photos. Before you move anything else, take photos and a short video with the time showing. Your landlord, building or insurer will ask for them.

Stop tap won't turn, or you can't find it? Stay on the line. There is usually an outside stop valve at the boundary too. We'll talk you to it.
Whose pipe is it?
Inside your home, and the supply pipe from the boundary to your house: yours, or your landlord's if you rent. The pipe under the pavement and the main in the road: Thames Water's. If water is bubbling up in the street rather than in your home, report it to Thames Water and it is theirs to fix. Flats often share a supply pipe, and the shared part is a joint responsibility.
Renting? Your landlord is responsible for fixing leaks. Call their emergency line first. If nobody answers and the water is still coming, we can attend tonight and you can send them the approval link or pay yourself. We can't promise they'll reimburse you.
What NightPlumber does tonight
A named plumber comes with an isolation kit. We find the burst, isolate it, and where the pipe is accessible we cap it or fit a temporary repair so the water can go back on for the rest of the home. We drain what needs draining, photograph the damage and the repair, and leave you a short report by 8am.
The permanent repair, if one is needed, is a fixed price we quote tonight with photos and you approve in daylight. Nothing more starts tonight without your yes.

What we do at night, and what we don't
Tonight (8pm–8am)
Burst pipes and leaks. Blocked toilets, sinks and internal drains. Overflows and ball valves. Stopcocks that won't turn. No water. We find it, quote the fix on your phone, and with your yes stop the water and make safe. Callout first, work priced before it starts.
Tomorrow (quoted tonight, done by day)
Repairs beyond making safe: replacing the pipe, the tap, the cistern, the flexi. We photograph it, quote a fixed price on your phone, and you decide in daylight. Get a second opinion if you like.
Never at night
Gas and boilers. If you have no hot water or heating, we make the plumbing safe tonight and book a Gas Safe registered engineer for 8am. We never work on gas. External drain jetting. Anything outside E1, E2, E3, E8, E9 and E14.
